About Us

When and why was it set up?

It was established in 1985 in response to a realisation that Cornwall was losing, as a result of commercial pressures, ignorance or neglect, or merely the effects of time and the natural elements, too much of its unique heritage

What are its objectives?
Either by itself or in collaboration with other bodies or persons working in the heritage field, it aims to:
box acquire land of particular beauty, historic, cultural or religious significance;
box preserve and restore buildings, artefacts or other items of particular artistic, aesthetic, historic, cultural, religious or other significance;
box educate the general public and the people of Cornwall, and inspire not least Cornwall’s young people, about Cornwall’s heritage and to encourage the realisation of its importance to future generations;
box to promote, with sensitivity, the heritage of Cornwall for the people of Cornwall’s economic well being;  and
box to raise funds and achieve favourable publicity to these ends.

The Trustees are supported by the Trust’s Administrative Secretary.

What of the Trust’s Finances?

For its income the Trust is wholly dependant upon the subscriptions and donations of its membership and on funds raised by them through events throughout the year.

The generosity of corporate bodies including companies in both the private and the public sectors, within Cornwall and at national level, grant-giving charities and of the general public are of great importance to the Trust in its ability to fulfil its objectives.

The administrative overheads are kept to a bare minimum consistent with its proper management.

Cornwall Heritage Trust is a Registered Charity No. 291607 and a Company Limited by Guarantee Registered No. 1901905.

What has the Trust done?

In the past the Trust has run annual heritage competitions in Poetry and Media (power point, web construction or video) for schools at both primary and secondary school levels.

The Trust is also devising a programme to widen the appreciation of Cornwall’s heritage to the young people of Cornwall through the school curriculum.
