Continuing the theme of landmarks as a starting point to share memories and experiences, we have held a series of events and workshops as part of the ‘Landmark Travels; Our Past in a Suitcase‘ project. A focus on landmarks has provided a fascinating way to explore place and we have been delighted to see how the project has been developing.

On what could have possibly been the only sunny day in August we held a Families Day at Carn Euny. Enthusiastic families explored the ancient village through the story of a young boy and engaged in a range of drop in activities by navigating the site with a special map (read more). In September and October we held Memory Days in Wadebridge (read more) and Trethurgy (read more). These were both well attended and have provided us with valuable contacts of people willing to be recorded over the winter. We will then edit some of these recordings down to 3-4 minutes, link them with images and create a series of digital stories that we will put online, show at events and take into schools. Finally we have begun our ‘Landmark Memories’ workshops, with the first one in Marazion, where we spent a wonderful afternoon sharing personal memories of significant landmarks and creating 1940’s style folding postcards to capture these (read more).

SAVE THE DATE! Our next ‘Landmark Travels’ event is a Community Day, which will take place at Treffry Viaduct on Sunday 22nd November 2015 from midday-4pm and is FREE. Come and explore the magnificent Treffry Viaduct through a range of fun and exciting drop-in activities for all ages. Find us in various locations surrounding the viaduct. Come wearing weather-proof clothing!

Landmark Travels was made possible with thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Cornwall Heritage Trust.
