Bugle School Year 5 trip to Pendennis Castle
On Wednesday 16th March 2016, thanks to the transport grant provided by the Cornwall Heritage Trust, a class of excited Year 5 students from Bugle School embarked on a fantastic day of historical learning and enjoyment at Pendennis Castle, Falmouth.
After a term of deep topical learning based on the ‘Tudors”, Year 5 were able to put their research and knowledge into context by visiting a real Tudor fortress and taking part in an excellent history work-shop delivered by the excellent staff at English Heritage. The work-shop consisted of time-line activities and history detective style artefact chests that got the children’s minds ticking about the Tudor person it may have belonged to.
The learning and enjoyment gained was outstanding (by adults and pupils!) however, without the grant for transport provided by the Cornwall Heritage Trust, the school would not have been able to afford the extra cost of the wonderful workshop provided by English Heritage.
The children are now using the knowledge and experience gained by this trip in their Tudor time-slip narrative writing and continuing historical studies, as the learning opportunities at Pendennis stem from the Tudor era right up to World War II.
