Wheal Martyn Visit
As part of our topic “It’s a small world,” Talland Class from Polperro Primary Academy visited Wheal Martyn on Tuesday 5th December. The full cost of the coach was kindly covered by a grant from Cornwall Heritage trust. We wanted to find out about industry in the local area, both historic and current, and about machinery used before modern day technology took hold. The former clay worker volunteers, Steve and Jim, took us on a guided tour of the site. The children learnt how china clay was mined and processed and about the role machinery played in this. We have used all this learning back in school to write some fantastic explanation texts and to help us with our history project.
