Nanpean School trip to Pendennis Castle

School News From Cornwall Heritage Trust Grants for School Transport Nanpean School visit Pendennis Castle Prosper class had an amazing adventure to Pendennis Castle on Tuesday 28th November. We learnt all about how why Henry VIII built the castle and how it kept the country safe from invasion. We found out about the people who would work in a castle and were luckily enough to dress up in their hats! Our favourite part was getting to explore the castle. We were able to find the castle features we had been learning about such as the moat, portcullis, battlements and arrow loops. We would like to thank the Cornwall Heritage Trust for giving us such a generous grant that made this trip possible. School News From Cornwall Heritage Trust Grants for School Transport Gwinear School visit Geevor Mine When we visited Geevor, I was very excited and looking forward to going underground. I couldn’t believe how bit the mines were, and how much rock had to be sorted through, crushed and bashed to get a small amount of tin. It was really exciting being underground, and I loved the panning for precious treasure. Thank you Geevor! We had a guided tour by a former Clay pit worker and took part in a machinery workshop. We discovered how water wheels were at the heart of the mining operation and we are now going to use this learning to help us write some fantastic explanation texts. School News From Cornwall Heritage Trust Grants for School Transport Bishop Bronescombe School visit Pendennis Castle KS1 children from Bishop Bronescombe School were able to visit Pendennis Castle with the generous grant that we received from the Cornwall Heritage trust. Our whole topic for the spring term this year has been ‘Castles’. We have been looking at the structure of castles, where they were placed, how they were attacked and defended and our trip to Pendennis really brought the topic to life for the children, they loved the workshop too! Here is what some of our children said about the trip: “It was great! We now know why the castle is round! My favourite bit was doing the workshop. It was really cool!” “I enjoyed looking around the castle. I know how they fired the cannons now. It was a brilliant trip.” “I loved our trip because we went in the castle. We got to draw the cannons and the castle. It was exciting, I want to go back.” “My favourite bit was all of it!
