Community Outreach Programme
“Helping to involve local communities to take an active part in preserving and strengthening the heritage on their doorsteps”
Cornwall heritage trust is working with local communities to encourage people to come together and share stories about their family history and the area they live in. We are working closely with all kinds of other organisations such as The Institute of Cornish Studies (ICS), Exeter University, CAVA, Azook, Old Cornwall Societies, Cornwall Outdoors and Storylines to create interesting projects and events to inspire all ages.
One exciting project is Viajys Tirnos – agan termyn eus passys yn trog (Landmark Travels – our past in a suitcase). This has been jointly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, ICS, Exeter University and Cornwall Heritage Trust. This project offers a different and innovative approach to engage people with their local heritage; spreading knowledge about Cornwall’s exciting historic landmarks. Storylines, an exciting new community interest company, are managing this project.
Whethlow Kernow (Cornish Story Cafes) are being held around Cornwall. These are informal café style events where someone shares a 20 minute story about a person, place or historic event. This is followed by a discussion where people can share their own experiences of family history and so on. These are proving very popular and we are working with the Old Cornwall Societies and local history groups to expand the programme.
