SUMMARY:Cornwall Heritage Trust Ranger Day
DESCRIPTION:Cornwall Heritage Trust’s Ranger Days are an exciting programme of practical volunteering opportunities at our heritage sites around Cornwall. \nTaking place at Caer Bran near Penzance\, this session will involve bracken clearance. This work has been informed by an ecological survey of the site\, which was made possible by funding from the Banister Charitable Trust. \nWork such as this is a vital part of helping us protect these ancient monuments and the natural habitats that they are part of\, and we are hugely grateful for any support you can give. \nNo experience is required and support and equipment will be provided. \nAlthough we are keen to accommodate all offers to volunteer\, on some occasions we are restricted to the number of volunteers that can participate on site. Places in these instances will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. \nClick here to register your interest \nhttps://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/TheCornwallHeritageTrustLimit/volunteersancreed-1.html

SUMMARY:Warbstow Bury Community Consultation Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to have your say! Following our acquisition of Warbstow Bury earlier this year\, we will be hosting a community consultation day about the site on Thursday 14th August. \nThe event will take place from 1 – 4pm at Warbstow Community Village Hall. \nWarbstow Bury is an important historic monument which sits on a prominent upland ridge at the heads of two tributaries of the River Ottery in northeast Cornwall. Thought to have been constructed around 2500 years ago\, it is Cornwall’s second-largest and best-preserved Iron Age fort. \nWe’re keen to work with the community as much as possible and would love to hear your thoughts at this consultation day. \nThere will also be free guided walks at 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Places are limited and will be given on a first-come-first-served basis on the day.

SUMMARY:Castilly Henge Excavation Community Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr Olaf Bayer\, Senior Archaeological Investigator at Historic England\, to learn more about this upcoming archaeological excavation – a project which aims to reveal the secrets of a unique prehistoric ritual site described by experts as “Cornwall’s ancient sacred heart”.\nLocation: Roche Victory Hall\, Social Club\, 15 Victoria Road\, Roche\, St Austell\, PL26 8JF – What3Words: ///cobbled.solid.everybody \nPrice: FREE \nThis talk will be repeated at two additional venues local to the excavation site during the next few months. Full details to follow. \nLocated just off the A30 near Bodmin\, Castilly Henge is believed to have been built during the late Neolithic period (about 3000 to 2500 BCE). It is a substantial oval earthwork with an external bank and internal ditch\, which would have formed an amphitheatre-like setting for gatherings and ritual activities. Its significance continued into the Early Bronze Age (c.2400-1500 BCE) when several high-status burial mounds or barrows were built close by. \nPrevious researchers have suggested that the site might have been used as a medieval open-air theatre known as a plen-an-gwari and then as a battery during the English Civil War. \nThe dig is informed by earthwork and geophysical surveys undertaken by Historic England’s Archaeological Investigation Team as part of a previous project in 2022. This found traces of a now-removed possible stone circle in the middle of the henge. Not all henges contain stone circles\, and there is only one other known to survive in Cornwall. \nThe dig will take place in September and October 2025.  \nThe excavation is being funded by Historic England. Outreach for the project has been made possible by a £42\,990 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a £10\,000 grant from Historic England. \nTea\, coffee and saffron buns will be served. \nThis project is a collaboration between… \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n \n \n\nMade possible by funding from… \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nSupport the appeal

SUMMARY:Duloe Stone Circle 'Cornwall's Hedges' Guided Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Cornwall Heritage Trust for a guided walk exploring the origins\, ecology and management of the ancient hedges surrounding Duloe Stone Circle. The walk will be led by traditional rural skills expert\, Jeremy Weiss from Proper Edges.\nLocation: Duloe Stone Circle\, Duloe\, PL14 4PN – What3Words: ///energetic.narrates.scornful \nPrice: £12 per person \nCornwall Heritage Trust members were given exclusive early access to book their places for this event and places are now extremely limited.\nThe walk will explore how and when hedges first appeared and what has happened to them since. You’ll discover the ways they support a huge variety of wildlife\, why they are important to humans\, and what management techniques are required to keep them in good shape for the future. \nThe only Cornish monument of its kind to be constructed entirely from white quartz\, Duloe Stone Circle is located at the southern end of the village of Duloe between Liskeard and Looe. It is Cornwall’s smallest known stone circle and its size compared with that of the stones is what makes the experience of visiting there so special. \nDespite much research\, stone circles are still mysterious sites. In Cornwall\, they generally date from the later third and early second millennia BCE and are believed to have been gathering places for communities. It is one of the 16 historic sites cared for by Cornwall Heritage Trust. \nAll ages are welcome to attend. \nThe walk involves uneven ground\, steps and slopes. Please wear sensible footwear and appropriate clothing. \nPlaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. \nThis event is in aid of Cornwall Heritage Trust – the small\, independent charity protecting Cornwall’s heritage for everyone.
