Each year Cornwall Heritage Trust gives a grant to Cornwall Historic Churches Trust to distribute to worthy Church projects on our behalf. Last year the funding was given to St Uny Church in Lelant to help fix their leaky tower roof and damaged bell frame.
“We had been having some problems with a leaking tower roof due to previous poor quality repairs using inferior materials. This leakage had led to widespread damp in the tower and major rust damage to the bell frame such that it was nearing the point when it was unsafe. Cornwall Historic Churches Trust in April 2017 gave us a grant towards the roof repair of £5000. This sum enabled us, with other monies to repair the roof with high quality materials including a lead outer skin. Since it has been leakproof we have been able to have the bells and bellframe removed, restored and rehung, and are about to embark on repair and restoration to the damp damage in the tower and on the west wall of the church.
