The story behind Cornish Spliced
“Grandad Plummer” retired from fishing aboard Tyak Mor and Harvester in St Ives several moons ago. As girls, his daughters spent many a childhood hour in his “fishing loft”, sitting atop bundles of nets whilst he made repairs and maintained his fishing gear. (They can still smell the ropes and feel the nets under their legs!)
Now with grandchildren and several dogs, grandad always has a bit of rope for when the family forget their dog leads. One day on a dog walk the family wondered if other people might like “a lead with a story”. From a meeting around the kitchen table and a few Facebook posts, Cornish Spliced was born!
Led by grandad and 15-year-old granddaughter Beth, Cornish Spliced products are made with re-purposed fishing gear from his boats – nets, buoy lines, anchors, “dans”… each one has its own unique story. “Spliced” means to join, never-ending, which feels particularly fitting for the Cornish Spliced family adventure.
