Year 4 enjoyed a visit to Lanhydrock House after completing a local history study about life there during the Victorian times. The children explored the house and the gardens. They were especially intrigued to visit after learning all about the fire in 1881.
“At Lanhydrock, my favourite room was the playroom. I enjoyed seeing their toys and playing with some of them. I learned that Lady Robartes was rescued from the top right-hand window. I thought the garden was amazing because we were so high up!”
Isla, aged 9
“We went to Lanhydrock House and I learnt that Lady Juliana got saved from a window upstairs. They also used to kill animals to go in their houses. The thing I loved the most was all the beautiful wallpaper and lovely furniture.”
Lily, age 9
“On 27th June we went to Lanhydrock House which has about 35 stuffed animals inside it. I found it a little sad they used to kill animals for decorations. I still cannot believe that they had 7 rooms to use as kitchens and we only have one. I found the window that Lady Robartes was saved from by the gardener during the fire. I loved seeing all the little details and spotting what a rich Victorian house would have been like.”
