“As part of our learning around the topic of the World Wars, Year 6 at Looe Primary Academy went on a trip to the Museum in Helston. Here we learnt all about the process of evacuation and how children from the bigger cities and military areas were evacuated to the countryside away from their homes. We were shown artefacts and items that gave us a greater idea of how difficult this would have been for the young children and got a sense of how we would have been affected if this had happened during our lifetimes.”
“The children explored the difficulties of school life for evacuated children and had the opportunity to write coded messages home using traditional pen and ink. We found this tricky at first, but after a bit of practice, we got the hang of it. Some of the children have now requested that we use pen and ink for our writing in class. The staff at the museum were extremely knowledgeable and welcoming, making this a really engaging trip.” Teacher
