Year 2 children from St. Newlyn East Learning Academy were able to attend the National Maritime Museum this year due to the transport grant given by Cornwall Heritage Trust.
The school said: “We visited the museum as the children were learning about some of the world’s greatest explorers. Through a specifically tailored workshop, the children learned all about Sir Francis Drake and the expedition he was sent on by Queen Elizabeth I to find a new route to Asia and riches to bring back to England.”
“The children were then given the opportunity to make and sail their own boats. We then had the afternoon to explore the museum and learn more about exploration and the deep sea. The children loved their day and made some fantastic memories. They were able to recount their day and it made a significant impact on their learning. One of the children wrote that it was the best day of her life!”
