Place of Work |
Krowji, Redruth |
Over the last few years, we have been working on a project to make the organisation more resilient and financially sustainable ahead of our 40th anniversary in 2025. We are undergoing a period of transformation and growth and are delighted to be able to work with the British Museum (through the Portable Antiquities Scheme) and Cornwall Council to offer the role of Finds Liaison Officer for Cornwall.
The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found by the public, including metal detector users, to advance archaeological knowledge and to increase opportunities for active public involvement in archaeology.
The successful applicant will join our friendly team and be based at our offices at Krowji in Redruth. The role involves liaison with the public across Cornwall to offer advice to people who have found archaeological objects and advise them on best practice; undertake outreach events to raise awareness of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the legal requirements associated with finds; identify, research and record finds on the PAS database; and work closely with museums and heritage organisations throughout Cornwall.
It is anticipated that you will have a degree in archaeology or a related discipline, or considerable relevant experience and specialist knowledge of finds recording on the PAS database. You must have a flexible approach and be willing to work outside normal office hours e.g. to attend meetings or events. You will need to be able to work independently and be very organised: capable of managing your own time and workload. Excellent presentation skills and the ability to engage with the public are essential and you will need to have a full clean driving license and access to your own vehicle; reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
This role is funded by the British Museum in partnership with Cornwall Council.
