DESCRIPTION:Join us at Kresen Kernow for a special talk on Cornish family history by professional genealogist and social historian\, Dr Lesley Trotter. \nDate: Thursday 29th January\nTime: 2pm – 3.30pm (Doors open from 1.30pm)\nLocation: Kresen Kernow\, Little Vauxhall\, Redruth\, TR15 1AS – What3Words: ///hence.smart.flamingo \nPrice: Pay as you feel (£5\, £10 or £15) \nResearching family history is an engrossing\, some might say addictive\, pastime\, but also a path to identity and a portal to better understanding the past.  \nIn this talk\, professional genealogist and social historian Dr Lesley Trotter explores the relevance of family history\, outlines strategies for successful research and looks at how key features of Cornish history such as Methodism\, mining and migration shaped Cornish family histories. \nShe also gives an overview of the different archives in Cornwall\, the Cornish records that are available online\, and the finding aids and local groups that can help with your research. \nAbout Lesley \nDr Lesley Trotter is a social historian\, genealogist and writer with a special interest in combining family history and academic research techniques to reveal the hidden stories of the past. Her PhD in Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter focused on the experiences of wives ‘left behind’ by emigrating Cornish miners in the 19th century\, and is now published as The Married Widows of Cornwall. Lesley gives frequent talks\, works with arts groups on community history projects\, and has featured in podcasts\, and on radio and TV. \nLesley is an Associate of the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter\, an Associate of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) and also holds an Undergraduate Advanced Diploma in Local History from the University of Oxford. She is a trustee of the Devon and Cornwall Records Society. \n \nThe talk is pay as you feel with tickets priced at £5\, £10 or £15. Tea\, coffee and saffron buns will be served. \nNumbers are restricted and places are available on a first-come-first-served basis. \nCornwall Heritage Trust is photographing and recording the event and may publish these photos and videos in a variety of media and online. \nThis event is in aid of Cornwall Heritage Trust. \nParking\nPlease park in New Cut Car Park (TR15 1AF)\, which is a short walk from Kresen Kernow. This exhibition delves into the Kresen Kernow Collection and the archive of Cornwall Heritage Trust to explore the varied roles that some of these archaeological landscapes have played for Cornwall’s communities over time. \nThe stories it tells are intimate and\, at times\, deeply moving glimpses into the lives of the people who are at the heart of what makes Cornwall unique. \nThis exhibition is a partnership project between Kresen Kernow and Cornwall Heritage Trust\, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Trust. \nThe exhibition is part-funded by Poynton Bradbury Architects. \nParking \nPlease park in New Cut Car Park (TR15 1AF)\, which is a short walk from Kresen Kernow. DESCRIPTION:Want to help your organisation stand out from the crowd and celebrate Cornwall’s unique cultural identity by using Kernewek\, the Cornish language?\nAs part of Speak Cornish Week\, Cornwall Heritage Trust is partnering with An Rosweyth – a network of voluntary Cornish language organisations – to offer a special introductory workshop on using Kernewek in business.\nLocation: Kresen Kernow\, Little Vauxhall\, Redruth\, TR15 1AS – What3Words: ///hence.smart.flamingo \nThe course is taking place in the ground floor Dowr Room. The building is fully accessible. \nPrice: £10 \nThis 2-hour course will offer an introduction to the history of Kernewek and the ongoing story of its revival\, followed by a language taster session to help you learn key phrases for business. There will also be the chance to explore how businesses are successfully embedding Kernewek into their work. The course will be rounded off with an interactive session on creating bilingual advertising\, helping you to consider the different ways of getting your message out there. \nTea\, coffee and saffron buns will be served.  \nThis session is part of Speak Cornish Week 2025 and is being run in partnership with An Rosweyth.  \nUnder its Speak Cornish banner\, member groups organise events\, promote the language and how to learn it\, produce publications\, create opportunities for using the language and generally provide help and advice. ​They aim to make the language accessible to all and work in partnership with each other and with organisations across Cornwall to increase the use of Cornish in our community life.­­­ \nDha weles ena!
