DESCRIPTION:Be taken on a journey through the historic\, cultural and folkloric significance of springtime flora and fauna in the Luxulyan Valley surrounding Treffry Viaduct.\nLocation: Treffry Viaduct\, St Austell\, PL26 8YE – What3Words: ///routs.overhaul.indicate \nMeeting Point: Black Hill Car Park\, Luxulyan\, St Austell\, PL26 8YE – What3Words: ///coverings.shots.sticks \nPrice: £10 \nLearn about the rich tapestry of tales and traditions associated with the signs of the season in Cornwall and explore the enchanting stories that places like this have inspired across the centuries.  \nThe walk will be led by Cornwall Heritage Trust’s Countryside Ranger\, Andrew. \nLocated near St Austell\, this 19th-century viaduct was designed to carry both a tramway and a high-level water channel (known as a leat) across the Luxulyan Valley for local mining entrepreneur Joseph Thomas Treffry. Once a hive of industrial activity\, the site has very much been reclaimed by nature and is home to a wealth of flora\, fauna and historic remains. \nThe walk involves uneven ground\, steps and slopes. Please wear sensible footwear and appropriate clothing. \nPlaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. \nThis event is in aid of Cornwall Heritage Trust. \n\nGetting there\nThe site can be reached by car or by train via Luxulyan train station\, on the Atlantic Coast railway branch line between Par and Newquay.  \nParking\nLimited parking is available in the Black Hill Car Park (named Luxulyan Valley Car Park on Google Maps). Just come along and enjoy! \nAbout the site \nTreffry Viaduct was built between 1839 and 1842 to carry both trucks and water across the Luxulyan Valley for local mining entrepreneur Joseph Thomas Treffry. The first large civil engineering structure of its kind to be built in Cornwall and the only known viaduct in Britain to combine these two uses\, it is part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site as designated by UNESCO. It was purchased by our charity in 1988. \n  \nThis event is in aid of Cornwall Heritage Trust – the small\, independent charity protecting Cornwall’s heritage for everyone.
