The brazier was lit by Geraint Richards MVO FICFor, The High Sheriff of Cornwall 2025-2026. This was used to light the 12-foot-tall brazier which sits permanently at the site. Over 400 people attended this special celebration.
Penwith-based artist, Jeremy Sanders was even on hand to capture the magic of the evening on canvas, creating a stunning ‘plein-air’ painting of the lighting as it took place. The painting was later auctioned to raise funds for our charitable work.

Sancreed Beacon was the first site to be taken into our charity’s care back in September 1985. This beautiful stretch of semi-natural moorland has been used by people since at least the Bronze Age. It was historically part of a chain of fires that could quickly send alerts around the country, and has also been set ablaze many times as part of important celebrations. The site was officially opened to the public in 1988.
