Pobel a Gernow (“People of Cornwall”) aims to recognise and celebrate the achievements of people who have made unique contributions to Cornwall’s history by installing plaques on buildings that are important to their stories. This scheme is a partnership initiative of Cornwall Heritage Trust, Gorsedh Kernow and the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies.
The people chosen to feature on plaques are nominated by members of the public. There are so many people who have made truly unique contributions to Cornwall’s history, and we’re so proud to be part of this scheme to make their stories heard!
Do you know someone from Cornwall’s past who hasn’t received the acclaim they deserve?
Pobel a Gernow aims to extend the work undertaken by numerous Cornish town plaques schemes into a Cornwall-wide initiative and plans to install more plaques over the coming years.
Nominations are open to everyone and we would love to hear from as many of you as possible. No figure is too obscure. Cornwall’s history is rich and diverse, and we want the people recognised by the plaques to reflect that!
If you would like to make a nomination, the diagram below outlines the process.
