This titanium plaque commemorates the identification of the metal menacanite, later called titanium, by the Reverend William Gregor in the leat of Tregonwell Mill, in the parish of Manaccan in Meneage in 1791. It also acknowledges the work of Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark, MD, PhD. of Goteberg, Sweden who in the 20th century pioneered the use of titanium in reconstructive surgery allowing the permanant attachment of artificial teeth and limbs directly to bone by ossointegration. 9th April 2002
